Practical music exams
In the following practical music exams, for both the Comprehensive and Repertoire format, an additional written exam is required to complete the exam and release the exam certificate. Theoretical knowledge of music is an expectation of higher practical exams and this study will assist practical music students to perform with greater musicality and an understanding of musical concepts, periods and styles.
These written exams can be done online at any time. More information about enrolling for an online theory exam.
The additional requirement does not need to be completed before the practical exam and there is no time limit in which to pass the written exam after the practical exam. The practical certificate will be posted to the enrolling person approximately one week after the written certificate has been issued.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to provide proof of the written exam result if undertaken outside of AMEB (NSW). Check Table A in the Regulations section of the AMEB Manual of Syllabuses for the equivalence of written exams taken with alternate examining authorities.
