AMEB (NSW) presents fifteen awards that recognise excellence in teaching.

Awards

Awards are based on teachers' top 10 exam results for Level 1, Level 2 and combined categories, and top 5 exam results for Level 3 categories.

Teachers

  • Keyboard:
  • Level 1 - Preliminary to Grade 4
  • Level 2 - Grade 5 to Certificate
  • Level 3 - Associate and Licentiate
  • Woodwind: Level 1 and 2 - Preliminary to Certificate
  • Strings: Level 1 and 2 - Preliminary to Certificate
  • Brass: Level 1 and 2 - Grade 1 to Certificate
  • Voice: Level 1 and 2 - Preliminary to Certificate
  • Voice or Instrumental: Level 3 - Associate and Licentiate
  • Speech & Drama: All levels - Preliminary to Licentiate
  • CPM/Percussion: All levels - All grades and steps
  • Written subjects: All levels - Preliminary to Licentiate

Music Schools/Studios

  • All instruments: Level 1 - Preliminary to Grade 4
  • All instruments: Level 2 - Grade 5 to Certificate
  • All instruments: Level 3 - Associate and Licentiate

Schools

  • Level 1, 2 and 3 - All music grades/steps, all instruments and subjects

Definitions

  • Private teacher: A solo teacher (does not employ or work with other teachers) who works from home or a private studio.
  • Music School/Studio: A studio, regional conservatorium or music/speech and drama school with more than one teacher.
  • School: Government or non-government schools, registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), that provide basic primary or secondary education.

Eligibility

Music teachers

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates in the category of the award (Level 1 and 2)
  • at least five candidates in the category of the award (Level 3)
  • under their teacher number

in the year of calculation.

Speech and Drama teachers

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates
  • under their teacher number

with a minimum of

  • two in the written section and
  • two in the practical section

in the year of calculation.

Music Schools/Studios

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates (Level 1 and 2)
  • at least five candidates (Level 3)
  • under the school/studio’s teacher number

in the year of calculation.

Schools

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates
  • under the school’s teacher number

in the year of calculation.
