    Why do written? Which syllabus?

AMEB (NSW) presents twelve awards that recognise excellence in teaching.

Awards

Awards are based on teachers' top exam results in each category for that calendar year. These awards are grouped according to Junior (Preliminary to Grade 6) or Senior (Grade 7 to Licentiate) exam results for most categories, with the exception of Written, Speech and Drama and the NESA-accredited Schools categories.

Teachers

  • Keyboard:
  • Preliminary to Grade 6
  • Grade 7 to Licentiate
  • Woodwind: Preliminary to Grade 6
  • Strings: Preliminary to Grade 6
  • Brass and Percussion: Preliminary to Grade 6
  • Voice: Preliminary to Grade 6
  • Voice or Instrumental: Grade 7 to Licentiate
  • Speech & Drama: All grade levels - Preliminary to Licentiate
  • Written subjects: All grade levels - Preliminary to Licentiate

Music Schools/Studios

  • All instruments: Preliminary to Grade 6
  • All instruments: Grade 7 to Licentiate

Schools

  • All instruments: Preliminary to Licentiate

Definitions

  • Private teacher: A solo teacher (does not employ or work with other teachers) who works from home or a private studio.
  • Music School/Studio: A studio, regional conservatorium or music/speech and drama school with more than one teacher.
  • School: Government or non-government schools, registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), that provide basic primary or secondary education.

Eligibility

Music teachers

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates (Preliminary to Grade 6)
  • at least five candidates (Grade 7 to Licentiate)
  • under their teacher number

in the year of calculation.

Speech and Drama teachers

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates
  • under their teacher number

with a minimum of

  • two in the written section and
  • two in the practical section

in the year of calculation.

Music Schools/Studios

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates (Preliminary to Grade 6)
  • at least five candidates (Grade 7 to Licentiate)
  • under the school/studio’s teacher number

in the year of calculation.

Schools

Must have enrolled:

  • at least ten candidates
  • under the school’s teacher number

in the year of calculation.
