For more than a century, the name Brain has been linked to the French horn. Tina Brain is the fifth member of her family to play the horn professionally, a tradition that began with her great grandfather, AE Brain, in the 1890s. The famous horn player Dennis Brain was her uncle.

Ms Brain studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Derek Taylor from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, who was himself taught by Tina’s grandfather, Aubrey Brain. In 2003, she was awarded the Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Originally from England, Ms Brain played fourth horn with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for 11 years before moving to Australia in 2001. Since settling in Sydney, she has played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and ensembles within Sydney.

Ms Brain has been playing the horn and teaching brass instruments for more than 20 years in England, Hong Kong and Australia. She currently teaches horn at schools on Sydney’s North Shore.
