Lisa studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and then undertook her final year of performance studies at Sydney University, to also gain an Honours Degree in English literature. Lisa is also a trained counsellor and she is active in Language Education.

Whilst a student, she was a member of both SYO and SBS Youth Orchestras. Ms Cartwright has since been involved in music education for over two decades. She has held the position of Treasurer for the Flute Society of NSW since 2015.

Lisa has tutored in many schools around Sydney, and worked as a teaching artist for The Song Room, as a Kindermusik educator and as a school band and ensembles director. Lisa has performed both vocals and flute with several acoustic groups. She has held interactive music theory workshops for community organisations, been a choir director, an eisteddfod adjudicator and an audition panellist for UNSW Orchestra and ensemble auditions.

Currently Lisa operates a private studio teaching flute and music theory.
