Steven Machamer earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Juilliard School in New York, where he was a scholarship student of Saul Goodman.

Mr Machamer spent 26 years in New York, where he performed regularly with the American Symphony Orchestra, the American Chamber Orchestra, the New York City Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, Solisti New York and the Little Orchestra Society. He toured with the New York City Opera National Company for seven seasons as Principal Percussionist and Principal Timpanist.

In Sydney, Mr Machamer has worked in film and television, most notably with The Wiggles. He has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and the Sydney Philharmonic Choirs.

The author of works for snare drum and vibraphone, Mr Machamer was acclaimed for his 2001 publication of Bach’s Suite for Lute in E minor. He has recorded for labels including CRI, EMI Angel, Newport Classics, Sine Qua Non, Ashlar Records, Music Masters, Millennial Arts and the Musical Heritage Society. Vibrant Baroque, his 1990 CD, was highly praised by the leading journal Percussive Notes.
