Natalia Samarin studied pianoforte with Zelma Tamarkina at the Leningrad State Conservatorium of Music. After graduating in 1976, she undertook postgraduate studies in the methods and practice of piano teaching. From 1971 to 1980, Mrs Samarin taught piano in state music schools and colleges in Russia. After arriving in Australia in 1981, she continued teaching piano, theory, musicianship and music history in Sydney schools.
Mrs Samarin performs extensively as a soloist, an accompanist and a member of chamber groups. As a music educator and piano pedagogue, she has helped her students further their music studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has taught piano to students of the School of Music and Music Education at the University of New South Wales. At the secondary level, she has taught at Brigidine College, Ascham School and Abbotsleigh. She has been teaching at Kambala for many years and also runs a private studio.
In addition to supporting the St George Instrumental Eisteddfod, Mrs Samarin organises piano student concerts in Jewish Care community centres.
Mrs Samarin has been awarded an AMEB Private Teaching Award.
