Justin Lingard began his music studies at the age of five, learning piano and cornet. Pursuing a career as a professional trumpet player, he studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music.
In 2000, Mr Lingard joined the Australian Defence Force as a professional musician. During his service, he toured Japan and was deployed as a musician on operational tours to East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr Lingard has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Philharmonia, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Riverina Chamber Orchestra. In 2013, he was appointed to the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, often working as principal trumpet. As a studio musician, he recorded the orchestral soundtracks to the movies Knowing (2009), Happy Feet 2 (2011), A Heartbeat Away (2011) and Legend of the Guardians (2010).

In addition to his orchestral work, Mr Lingard has performed with commercial, pop and jazz musicians, including Natalie Cole, George Benson, Tina Arena, Marcia Hines, Guy Sebastian, Lior, Little Patti, Normie Rowe, Megan Washington and Russell Morris. He performed on the Skipping Girl Vinegar album Sift the Noise, for which he also wrote the brass arrangements.

Mr Lingard has conducted numerous brass bands. In 2007, he was appointed Bandmaster of the Sydney Congress Hall Band. He has often performed as guest conductor with the Australian Army Band in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Having discharged from the Australian Defence Force in 2010, Mr Lingard is now a professional music educator and freelance musician. He has held appointments as the Director of Bands at Northern Beaches Christian School and at Mercy College in Chatswood. He now lives in Wagga Wagga, where he is Director of Bands at the Riverina Anglican College. He also teaches brass at the Riverina Conservatorium of Music and contributes to the band programs at several Wagga Wagga schools.
