Catriona Stafford studied piano with Alexander Sverjensky at the State Conservatorium of Music, achieving her diploma at the performer and teacher levels. After completing a diploma in education, she taught music in state secondary schools and became a Deputy Principal. At various times, she was seconded as Regional Consultant in Music, Coordinator of the Music Retraining Program, Inspector of Schools (Music), and Leader of the Performing Arts Unit.

Mrs Stafford was later appointed Curriculum Officer (Creative Arts) at the NSW Board of Studies, working on the revision of three secondary music syllabuses and support documents, and served as Chairperson of the HSC Music Examination Committee and Supervisor of Marking for HSC Music. She has wide experience in assessing musical performance, including adjudicating at eisteddfods and music festivals. In addition, she has been on panels awarding music scholarships and has lectured on many aspects of music performance and pedagogy.

While continuing to perform in concerts, Mrs Stafford demonstrates the interpretation of diploma works and performs two-piano works with advanced students. She also teaches piano privately and has been awarded AMEB Teaching Awards for the Most Outstanding Private Teacher, Preliminary to Grade 6 and Grade 7 to Licentiate.

As a volunteer, Mrs Stafford advises and assists other piano teachers with their students and in preparing for exams. She also gives her time to comfort and support those involved in Family Court proceedings.
