Belinda Morton earned her bachelor of music education and her diploma of music (performance) from the University of Newcastle. She received a scholarship that enabled her to study with eminent concert pianist Martin Roscoe at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Her master of arts degree explored the interpretation of Mozart keyboard sonatas with specific reference to piano pedagogy.
After returning to Australia, Mrs Morton took up a position with the University of Newcastle, where she lectured in tertiary piano, keyboard harmony, harmony and aural studies, as well as teaching non-tertiary piano. She has also worked as a piano teacher and accompanist at Newcastle Grammar School and at Hunter Valley Grammar School, where she currently holds the position of Head of Keyboard Studies and Accompaniment.
In her position at Hunter Valley Grammar School, Mrs Morton co-facilitated the development of the chamber music program and also directs and coaches the school’s piano trios, covering repertoire from classical to contemporary. Her ongoing interest in interpretive practice includes keyboard genres and chamber music.
Mrs Morton enjoys giving workshops and masterclasses, adjudicating at eisteddfods, and collaborating in community performance projects.
