Walter Shovk earned his diploma from the State Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of George Humphrey. He undertook three years of postgraduate studies in piano at the Peter Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

Early in his career, Mr Shovk was a répétiteur for the Opera School of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. For 10 years he taught piano at Sydney Grammar School and at Cranbrook. Mr Shovk has adjudicated numerous eisteddfods, including Coffs Harbour, Blue Mountains, Manly Warringah and St George. He has performed piano duets with Phillip Shovk at Government House.

Mr Shovk has conducted numerous workshops for schools and for private teachers. He currently works in community aid in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney and plays six concerts annually for Anglicare.
