Loretta Palmeiro is a Sydney-based bandleader, composer, arranger, woodwind specialist and saxophonist. An honours graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she holds degrees in both classical music and jazz.
The recipient of a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts, Ms Palmeiro is a founding member of the Spyglass Gypsies. She is the director of Alma Orquestra and co-leader of Some of Two Parts, a composition-in-real-time duo with Mark Isaacs.
Ms Palmeiro plays with Divergence Jazz Orchestra, the Sydney Jazz Orchestra, Aria Award-winning Musica Viva group Mara, and Anna Salleh’s Brazil and Beyond. She performs regularly in freelance and orchestral settings and is a casual saxophonist for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
An enthusiastic educator, Ms Palmeiro teaches instrumental, ensemble and improvisation classes at several of Sydney’s leading music colleges.
