Katrina Love earned her bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of New South Wales, her postgraduate diploma in music technology at the University of Newcastle, and her master of creative arts – research at the University of Wollongong, majoring in music composition.

Ms Love has been a private instrumental studio teacher for the past 34 years, providing tuition in pianoforte, electronic organ, pipe organ composition, theory and musicianship. She was a classroom teacher for 10 years in public and private schools, before spending another 10 years teaching at the tertiary level. Ms Love was recognised for her contemporary popular music teaching results as the winner of the AMEB (NSW) teaching award in the CPM and Percussion category in both 2017 and 2018.

While living in Ghana, Ms Love studied traditional West African drumming. She composed a graded collection of compositions for piano based on traditional drumming rhythms. In South America, Ms Love studied the pianistic styles of Latin American music. She has performed with Latin bands in Sydney and toured on the east coast of the United States and in Brazil.

Ms Love edited the AMEB Supplementary Syllabus Handbook Aural and Creative Work for Electronic Organ and represented New South Wales on the Syllabus Committee for the development of AMEB’s Piano for Leisure Series 3. She has been a guest lecturer at the Summer and Winter Piano Teachers Festivals at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. For the Illawarra Music Teachers’ Association, Ms Love has presented seminars and adjudicated music festivals. She has also adjudicated many eisteddfods throughout New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and was a keyboard examiner for the Yamaha Music Foundation.

Ms Love has hosted drumming workshops for women to raise money for the building of an orphanage and the education of underprivileged girls in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
