Colin McDonald commenced piano studies at an early age with Janna Radom before studying with Marjorie Hesse MBE at the Sydney Conservatorium. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the International Conservatorium and his diploma of music education at Alexander Mackie College.
Mr McDonald manages a private studio on the North Shore of Sydney, where he teaches piano and musicianship and also accompanies his students. He makes regular visits to Salzburg, including the Salzburg Music Festival, to enhance his teaching by attending pedagogy conferences, workshops, concerts and competitions. Mr McDonald also travels to Indonesia, where he studies traditional gamelan music.
A former high school music teacher, Mr McDonald has written educational materials on harmony and theoretical methods. He has organised Junior Music Festivals in Sydney and regional New South Wales. Mr McDonald also presents workshops and adjudicates competitions.
