Important information for all exams
For exam prices, please see subject fees and codes.
Please note the following information that applies to every exam:
- Exam dates to avoid must be provided with your enrolment in the 'scheduling request' field. If you have further dates to avoid after submitting an enrolment, a scheduling request form must be submitted before the exam dates is released (additional fees apply).
- Enrollers will receive an email notification three to four weeks prior to the scheduled face-to-face exam date. Scheduling details are also visible on AMEB Connect in real time.
- AMEB (NSW) schedules exams Monday to Saturday (no Sunday exams). Requests for exams on Saturdays cannot be guaranteed.
- AMEB (NSW) exams may be scheduled during school holidays and on long weekends within the exam period.
- It is not possible to transfer a student's exam from one calendar year to the next.
- A late fee of $65 per exam, per enrolment will be charged for enrolments received after the closing date for all face-to-face exams and video second sessions (21, 82).

- For exams at non-AMEB venues (schools, private music studios, etc.), select session 06. It is only possible to enrol in this session if the enroller has been provided with the venue code and received the venue owner’s permission prior to enrolling. Venue owners must ensure their venue application/renewal form has been submitted and approved prior to the start of session 06.
- A 50% refund is possible with written notice provided seven weeks before the exam series starts. Please refer to the AMEB (NSW) refund policy.

- Grade exams for all instruments. Exams are split into postcode periods based on the enrolling person’s residential postcode (please see our postcode policy). The postcode policy does not apply to percussion, harp and organ sessions.
- For exams at AMEB venues, Clarence Street, Sydney Conservatorium of Music and The Joan (Penrith), select session 33.
- For exams at non-AMEB venues (schools, private music studios, etc.), select session 03. It is only possible to enrol in this session if the enroller has been provided with the venue code and received the venue owner’s permission prior to enrolling. Venue owners must ensure their venue application/renewal form has been submitted and approved prior to the start of session 03.
- You can select a postcode period other than your enrolling residential postcode, which is referred to as a period-to-period transfer. Period-to-period transfers are only possible up to and including Tuesday 16 June. The fee is $59 per exam, per enrolment automatically added at checkout. Select your preferred period at the time of enrolment. There is a cap of $354 for each unique enrolment submission (with 6 or more candidates).
- For percussion, harp and organ exams at non-AMEB venues and Sydney Con, please select session 09 for percussion and session 30 for harp and organ.
- A 50% refund is possible with written notice provided seven weeks before the exam series or postcode period starts. Please refer to the AMEB (NSW) refund policy.

- In the 2nd session, examination dates are different for Associate and Licentiate diplomas. Exams will only be scheduled on a subset of days within these periods, and we are unable to accept requests for exams on specific dates.

- 1st session exams are for P Plate to AMusA for all instruments. AMusA exams are subject to venue availability and sufficient enrolments.
- 2nd session exams are for piano only, for P Plate to certificate of performance. No other instruments are examined in this session.

- AMEB (NSW) offers online exams for the following subjects; musicianship grades 1 to 6, theory of music grades 1 to 6, music craft grades 1 to 4, and theory of speech and performance grades 1 to 7.
- Enrolment is via AMEB Connect.
- After enrolment, the enroller will receive a confirmation of enrolment email with a unique exam key and PIN for each candidate to use to log into AMEB Score. Please see our website for more information on how to enrol for an online written exam.
