Elizabeth Lim studied clarinet and piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. A scholarship from the Hungarian government allowed her to study at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. As the recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Trust Award and a Goethe-Institut scholarship, Miss Lim studied in Hanover under Hans Deinzer. She also studied in Paris under Guy Deplus.

Miss Lim has performed extensively in Australia and overseas, including with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Sydney Opera House Orchestra, the Hunter Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Australis, the Collegium Musicum Orchestra, the Pacific Opera Orchestra, Canberra Wind Soloists and The Seymour Group. She has held principal clarinet positions with the orchestras for Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Porgy & Bess and Les Misérables.

In addition to her work as a performer, Miss Lim has extensive teaching experience. This includes clarinet and saxophone pedagogy, ensemble conducting, orchestral and chamber music tutoring, and presenting lectures and masterclasses. She has taught at venues including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Sydney, the Australian Institute of Music and the Riverina Conservatorium Centre, among many others. She is also experienced as a teacher of students with physical, psychological and social challenges.

Miss Lim appears frequently as an adjudicator, examiner and guest tutor, including for the Australasian Saxophone and Clarinet Conference Competitions and for the Palladian Cup at the University of Sydney.
