As a young singer, Karen Green studied with Walter Barnes and at the Queensland Conservatorium. She sang at Brisbane City Council concert events and received many certificates, scholarships and prizes from eisteddfods, competitions and the AMEB. Before earning her master’s degree in music education, she studied voice at the University of New South Wales under the guidance of Neil Easton and Geoffrey Chard.
Mrs Green has performed as a soloist with choirs, orchestras, musical shows, recitals and events. For more than 20 years, she has taught singing, theory, musicianship and piano. Mrs Green especially enjoys guiding children’s voices through to young adulthood. She teaches most genres, including classical, sacred, musical theatre, jazz and popular music in preparation for examinations, recitals, auditions and competitions. Mrs Green accompanies her students in examinations and other events. She also accompanies music society performances and church events.
Mrs Green has assisted in the running of professional development workshops, conferences and junior music festivals. As well as conducting her own workshops, she lectures on vocal care for the Music Teachers’ Association. She also adjudicates at eisteddfods.
An experienced composer and arranger, Mrs Green was selected to compose over 50 children’s songs for an international program on sacred education that was released in 2016. In addition to conducting and coaching choirs for adults, youth and children, she is a singing consultant to larger district choirs. She is also a trained pipe organist and plays the organ and piano regularly in church.
