Beth Willis – Voice Adviser

Beth Willis

Beth Willis completed her music and education studies at the University of Sydney and the Sydney Conservatorium. Since then, she has been professionally involved in music as a teacher, performer and administrator for over twenty five years. In an administrative capacity, she has worked for the Music Department at the University of Sydney, the Australian Opera, the Australia Council and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As a performer, she has sung with the Sydney Philharmonia Motet Choir and in opera.

Her work with the AMEB (NSW) as Voice Adviser is part of her ongoing commitment to the promotion of community involvement in music. Beth has worked with other groups towards these goals, including the Australian National Choral Association, the World Symposium on Choral Music (held in Sydney in August 1996) and the City of Sydney Cultural Council.

She regularly presents workshops and papers at conferences throughout Australia and has attended many international conferences in which vocal health and education is the primary focus. She is a member of the US-based VoiceCare Network, a group dedicated to the dissemination of the most recent research and practice in voice use and care.

Beth's private singing/teaching practice encompasses students of all ages, teaching small groups, choirs and one-to-one. Through her work, she has developed a particular interest in male and female adolescent voice. She researched this topic as part of her Master of Education degree at the University of Melbourne (1997) and is now pursuing further doctoral studies in the topic at the National Voice Centre at the University of Sydney.
