Freedom to do your own thing!

The ability to improvise is what often sets performers apart, that overriding confidence to take it away and totally ad-lib musically.

Many big name performers are masters of improvisation. Here are just a few you may recognise.

This fundamental, yet often ignored, skill is covered in the creative section of your CPM course. As part of the kit, two recorded backings are provided for your improvisation, one of which will be used in your assessment session.

In basic styles, like Rock or Blues, these tracks run through standard progressions, for example the 12 bar blues. Then it's up to you to bring them to life by adding your own trademark of lines, twists and fills.

Next to composing, improvisation has to be the most creative way for you to express yourself musically.
