Loretta Palmeiro

Loretta is a founding member of the Sirens Big Band, the Crystal Barreca Band, and Australian Arts Council Grant recipients the Spyglass Gypsies. In these capacities and other ensembles she has performed at the Brisbane Festival, Manly, Wollongong, Kiama, Illawarra and Newcastle Jazz festivals, and the 2013 OzManouche Festival. She accompanied iconic vocalist Jeff Duff at the Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival and US baritone saxophonist Claire Daley in the 2013 Women’s Jazz festival, and has also supported Peruvian vocalist and comedy star, Melcochita. Loretta performed for a crowd of thousands alongside internationally renowned vocalist/trombonist Dan Barnett and Australian diva Lanie Lane in Sydney Festival’s Trocadero Dance Palace in 2011, and its Martin Place reprise in 2012. In 2013 she supported Lollo Meier and Remi Harris at the Camelot Lounge with the Spyglass Gypsies, and has played in sold-out shows at the Sydney Town Hall, the Sound Lounge, Jazz Club 505, the Foundry, and held a residency at The Basement. Loretta has made radio and TV appearances and has also recorded several albums.

Loretta obtained a Bachelor Degree in Classical Music and Honours in Jazz Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. As a student she toured with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra performing the Ibert Saxophone Concerto. She has also performed with the Bell Shakespeare Group, Kuring-gai Philharmonic, Willoughby and Wollongong Symphony Orchestras, Macquarie University Singers, and the Sydney Showboat. She supported Tommy Emmanuel with the Sydney Youth Orchestra and currently plays as a casual with the Divergence Jazz Orchestra and the NSW Police Band. Loretta also teaches woodwind at SCEGGS Darlinghurst, Monte Sant’ Angelo College and Moriah College.
