Morton Belinda

Belinda Morton graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Music Education with Distinction and a Diploma of Music (Performance). While completing her tertiary studies, she attained both the Associate and Licentiate Diplomas in Performance from the AMEB.

After graduating Belinda was awarded a scholarship for further piano studies overseas which took her to Manchester, UK, to study with eminent concert pianist Martin Roscoe based at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Upon returning to Australia, Belinda took up a position with the University of Newcastle, lecturing in tertiary piano, keyboard harmony, harmony and aural studies, as well as non-tertiary piano teaching. She also worked as a piano teacher and accompanist at both Newcastle Grammar School and Hunter Valley Grammar School.

Belinda completed a Masters of Arts degree in 2002 which explored interpretation of Mozart Keyboard Sonatas with specific reference to Piano Pedagogy. During this time, she was active as an accompanist for AMEB exams, HSC performances and tertiary recitals.

In 2011, Belinda was appointed to the staff of the Faculty of Music at Hunter Valley Grammar School (HVGS) where she currently holds the position of Head of Keyboard Studies and Accompaniment. Her work at the school has also included music class teaching, preparing senior students for HSC exams, and coaching chamber music groups. She is an accredited member of the MTA and contributes to music programs and activities as a committee member of the Newcastle Branch.

Belinda continues to be a very active accompanist both in her role at HVGS and in community projects and collaborations. She enjoys giving workshops and master classes in piano in the Hunter region, working with students of all ability levels.
