Steven Machamer

Steven was a scholarship student of Saul Goodman at The Juilliard School. Following 21 years of professional work in New York City, Steven now resides in Sydney and is the author of works for snare drum and vibraphone. His publishers include Honey Rock, C Allen and Permus Publications. He has produced a CD titled Vibrant Baroque featuring chamber music for vibraphone, violin and piano was released in 1990. His publication in June 2001 of Bach's Suite for Lute in E minor BWV 996 transcribed for the vibraphone.

Throughout his time in New York, Steven was a regular performer on timpani and percussion at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, American Chamber Orchestra, Solisti New York and, at Lincoln Center with the Little Orchestra Society, the New York City Ballet, Metropolitan Opera and NYC Opera. Mr Machamer toured with the NYC Opera National Company for seven seasons as Principal Percussionist and/or Principal Timpanist. He recorded in America for the CRI, EMI Angel Newport Classics, Sine Qua Non, Ashlar Records, Music Masters, Millennial Arts and Musical Heritage Society labels.

On drum kit, Steven performed in the 1981 Broadway Revival of My Fair Lady and US Tour of the musical Cinderella starring Deborah Gibson, Eartha Kitt, and Paola Montalban. He currently plays drums with Setemup Joe, a seven-piece Sydney based swing combo. Since arriving in Sydney in June 2001, Steven's performing career has included work in film, television, video sessions (most notably for The Wiggles) and concerts with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony and Sydney Philharmonic Choirs. Steven is on staff with the Conservatorium of NSW Percussion Unit and a casual staff member with UNSW, Kensington.
