Emma Knott

Emma Knott is presently teaching flute and chamber music in the Southern Highlands, having spent eleven years at the University of Wollongong, the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music and as lecturer in flute at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She has also taught at Shore, Frensham, St. Aloysius and Sydney Grammar Schools, and given many masterclasses both in Australia and overseas. In 1992, she attended classes with William Bennett and James Galway.

A former Vice-President of the Flute Society of NSW and former Secretary of the Australian Flute Society, Emma has extensive adjudication experience, with flute and general eisteddfods, and the Kuringai Concerto Competition. She has performed with various orchestras in NSW and Queensland and is a member of ‘eclectix’ flute ensemble. Emma conducted the SYO Flute Ensemble from 1995 until 2002.

Emma has a special interest in flute ensembles, having formed and directed the Conservatorium of Wollongong Flute Ensemble for eleven years. In 1999 and 2002, her ensembles won the Open International Flute Ensemble competitions held at the Australian Flute Conventions in Brisbane and Melbourne.

In 2007 she released a solo CD From a Bridge of Dreams with David Miller AM, piano. Played extensively on ABC radio and 2MBSFM, it is a collection of new Australian works for flute published by Wirripang Music.
