Dahle Innes attended the Conservatorium High School for six years where she majored in Piano and French Horn, studying piano with Nea de Mestre and Josephine Bell, and horn with Alan Mann and Clarence Mellor.

She went on to tertiary study at the NSW State Conservatorium and shortly after played horn with the Elizabethan Sydney Orchestra (now the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra). Dahle played with this orchestra for six years in a variety of positions. She was a member of the ABC Sinfonia for 18 months, occasionally performing as a soloist. Dahle has played casually with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra as well as at special events, such as the Leningrad-Kirov Ballet tours. In the music theatre field she played in numerous professional productions including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita and Man of la Mancha.

Since the mid-1980s Dahle has been chiefly engaged in music education and has been an examiner for the AMEB since 1997. She is the Head of Brass at Kinross Wolaroi School in Orange, where she tutors in all areas of brass from Years 2 to 12. She is also involved in senior performance technique development and accompaniment, and is director of various ensembles, including the Secondary Orchestra which has made a number of successful tours to Europe and the USA under her direction.

An interest in learning styles and the social and cognitive influences on behaviour influenced her decision to pursue an Honours degree in Psychology, taking Cognitive and Social Psychology as her majors.
