Ross Hamilton

Ross Hamilton is a graduate of Sydney University, where he studied piano with Margaret Hair and music education with Peter Dunbar-Hall.  Since completing his studies, he has taught at Barker College, Knox Grammar School, Newington College, Sydney Conservatorium and the Australian Institute of Music. He has been an adjudicator for Ryde Eisteddfod and the NSW Music Teachers’ Association.

Ross has performed with many leading instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles, including the Carlson Chorale, The Hills Chamber Ensemble and Coruscations contemporary music ensemble. He has taken part in radio broadcasts and numerous music club recitals, including the Federated Music Clubs, the Aulos Society and the Australian Musicians Academy. He was an official accompanist for Sydney Eisteddfod for more than 10 years.

Ross has more than 25 years’ teaching experience. His students have competed successfully in eisteddfods, and have been amongst the highest-ranked candidates for HSC music. Many of his students have been awarded diplomas or distinctions by the AMEB.

Ross’s research interests included piano music of Australian composers and music education for gifted and talented students. He has received instruction from composers Ross Edwards, Graham Hair and Miloslav Penicka on the performance of their piano music, and has taken part in first performances of works by Kirsty Beilharz, Miriam Hyde, Miloslav Penicka, Paul Stanhope and Stephen Yates.
