Marie Fox

Marie Fox has had a long and distinguished career as a flute teacher and performer. She taught at the Queensland and Tasmanian Conservatoriums of Music, Sturt CAE (Adelaide) and Northern Rivers School of Music, and recently retired from teaching at the University of Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. Marie has many years’ experience teaching flute at all levels, from beginner to diploma level, and is also a teacher mentor. She was Director of the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music Flute Choir from 1999 to 2012. She has frequently adjudicated and tutored young players of other woodwind instruments.

A graduate of the ABC National Training Orchestra and former Principal Flute, Hunter Symphony Orchestra and Hunter Sinfonia, Marie has had a busy career as a freelance musician, also performing with the Tasmanian, Queensland and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, and in many chamber groups.

Marie has been active on the executives of the Flute Societies of Tasmania, Adelaide, Lismore and Newcastle, and served as a board member of the Hunter Symphony Orchestra and Hunter Sinfonia. She has regularly been engaged as a woodwind examiner at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the University of Newcastle, and has enjoyed examining for the AMEB since 2000.
