Catherine Fluke

BMus, ASCM (Piano, Flute)

Catherine Fluke was educated at the Conservatorium High School where she completed her ASCM in both flute and piano performance. She studied at the Canberra School of Music with Vernon Hill, completing her Bachelor of Music Performance in 1984.

She undertook further study with Susan Milan in London in 1995.

Catherine has experience as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. As a soloist she has performed regularly, including radio recordings. She is a former member of the Chamber Maids wind quintet, performing with the Musica Viva schools program. As an orchestral player she has worked with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, The Elizabethan Trust Australian Opera orchestra and with the Bolshoi Ballet orchestras Sydney and Newcastle season.

Catherine is a passionate advocate for the flute and a highly dedicated educationalist, having taught the flute for over 25 years in schools throughout Sydney, including Kambala Girls’ School, Hills Grammar School, Meriden Girls’ School, The Kings School, Barker College and Santa Sabina College. Nurturing excellence in technical and musical skills from the earliest days of a child’s musical education is important to Catherine and she enjoys working with young musicians in a variety of settings including flute ensembles, school bands and orchestras.

She has been an examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board since 1988 and has been guest Adjudicator for many Eisteddfod Societies and guest tutor in masterclasses and music camps throughout New South Wales.
