Leigh Carter

Ms Leigh Carter studied at the Newcastle Conservatorium and completed her tertiary studies there in 1985. Ms Carter then became a teacher of pianoforte at St Cecilia’s Academy of Music at St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar from 1986 to 1990 in addition to operating a private studio at Lake Macquarie. Leigh was a teacher of pianoforte at Newcastle Grammar School from 1997 until 2001 and furthered her early keyboard skills with Paul Dyer in 1990 at Newcastle Conservatorium.

Ms Carter has been a casual lecturer of pianoforte at Newcastle University and a teacher of pianoforte at Newcastle Conservatorium since 1998, and is an experienced teacher of keyboard studies, musicianship and music craft. Ms Carter has adjudicated eisteddfods and conservatorium scholarship auditions, conducted pianoforte master classes for the Kia-Ora Music Festival and directed workshops in AMEB repertoire for the Newcastle Conservatorium.

Ms Carter has also been an active accompanist for AMEB examinations, HSC examinations and eisteddfods with a special interest in woodwind performance and repertoire. Ms Carter has designed early childhood music learning programs and conducted classes in early childhood music between 2002 and 2005.
