Tina Brain

GRSM (Hons), LRAM, ARAM

Examiner Number: 1057

For over one hundred years, the name Brain has been linked to the French horn. Tina Brain is the fifth member of her family to play the horn professionally, a tradition started by her great grandfather A E Brain in the 1890s. The famous horn player Dennis Brain was Tina’s uncle.

Tina studied at The Royal Academy of Music in London, England, with Derek Taylor from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, who had himself been taught by Tina’s grandfather Aubrey Brain. In 2003 Tina was awarded the Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).

Initially from England, Tina played fourth horn with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for 11 years before moving to Australia in 2001. Since settling in Sydney, Tina has played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and ensembles within Sydney.

Tina Brain has been playing the horn and teaching brass instruments for over 20 years, in England, Hong Kong and Australia. Currently, Tina is teaching horn at schools on Sydney's North Shore.
