Ann Hoy OAM

Ann is presently teaching piano and musicianship at her studio in the Southern Highlands having previously had many years of teaching experience as a high school music teacher and over 47 years as a private piano teacher.

In her years as Director of Music at Calrossy School and Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music as Head of Keyboard Studies and Director of the orchestral programme, Ann’s special interest was training and conducting Youth and School Orchestras, Bands and instrumental ensembles. At the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music Ann initiated and directed bi-annual orchestra festivals where commissioned works for youth orchestra by prominent Australian composers were regularly premiered.

In 1998 Ann was the recipient of the AMEB Shield for Piano (Preliminary to Grade 6). Many of her students have achieved distinctions in exams from the earliest grades to diploma levels and have gone on to study music at a tertiary level. On numerous occasions her piano students have been placed in the top 10 for HSC music in NSW and Ann has been acknowledged as a Teacher of Excellence for services in music education.

As well as many years of teaching experience, Ann has extensive accompaniment experience including Eisteddfods, AMEB and HSC examinations.

In the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Ann received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to music through the Tamworth Regional Conservatorium of Music.
