Examiner Number: 1002

Adrienne Alexander has been a music educator for more than 25 years. Her devotion as an instrumental teacher is displayed in the success of her students both in the HSC and AMEB examinations: many of them go on to follow music careers themselves. Adrienne has taught at many schools and private studios, including The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Loreto Normanhurst and Northholm Grammar School where she conducts several flute ensembles every week.

Adrienne was the Secretary of the NSW Flute Society from 1996 to 1999 and the Convenor of the Parramatta Eisteddfod in 1997 and 1998. She has also been an adjudicator for several eisteddfods and instrumental competitions.

Adrienne studied and performed in London and Paris. She has published articles in several music journals and featured on two jazz CD recordings. She has worked as a freelance soloist and in musical theatre for almost 30 years.

Adrienne also has a master’s degree in sound design for film from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, and has studied Music Therapy at UTS Kuring-Gai.

She is currently running the woodwind program at Lorien Novalis School for Rudolph Steiner Education, which includes many aspects of music education including classroom music teaching and early music recorder consorts. She is studying the philosophies of Rudolph Steiner, through the Sydney Steiner College, as the basis for a book of original vocal and recorder pieces for children.
